The syrup is boiling at Randalls Maple in Alexander, NY

Come try the “best tasting” maple syrup in the United States!  The New York State Maple Producers Association invites you to one of the state’s sweetest events:   Maple Weekend.

Our goal during Maple Weekend is to share the taste of real mouth-watering maple syrup with you and to demonstrate the various ways to make it.  Whether it’s simply boiling the sap over an open fire or running it through highly scientific equipment, the final product is always great taste.

From the first Maple Sunday nearly 15 years ago to today’s Maple Weekend event, the public has the opportunity to see first-hand how maple products are produced, from tree to table, along with the chance to taste and purchase maple products.  From its start in Wyoming County, Maple Weekend now occurs statewide and takes place on TWO weekends due to its popularity.  This year, Maple Weekend takes place March 19-20 and 26-27 from 10am – 4pm each day.  Check our Locations page for a producer near you and to see the dates and times that they’re open.

 Admission is free!!

New York State –Maple Syrup Production up 10% in 2009

In 2009, New York State’s more than 1,500 maple syrup producers made more than 362,000 gallons of syrup according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.  Only Vermont with 920,000 gallons and Maine’s 395,000 with gallons produced more maple syrup.   Canada is the largest maple syrup producing country in the world.

New York’s increase was 10% more than 2008’s production output.  Dry conditions in the North Country and a quick warming season limited what would have been an even larger crop.  The sugar content in the sap was lower than in 2008.  Syrup color was 45% dark, 46% medium, and 9% light.

New York’s 1.51 million taps produce enough sap to account for almost 15.6% of the maple syrup made in the United States.  That averages out to 0.240 gallons of syrup for every tap in the state with an average cost per gallon of syrup at $42.40.

The final value of the 2008 crop is estimated at $13.907 million, a huge increase of 55% from the year before.  The economic impact of maple production in New York State is estimated $55.6 million in 2008.  The USDA will release 2009 crop values in June of 2010.
