4x14 wood-fired evaporator with a unique air injection

Activities:
Yancey's Sugarbush is a
5500 tap operation - mostly BUCKETS! - that's been in continuous
operation by five generations of the Yancey family since 1844.
Since Peter Yancey started in the 1840's we have had a rigid
policy to not cut any maple tree, big or
small, that could produce
sap now or in the future. As a result some trees are over 250
years old. Traditional methods are still being used, with 2
teams of horses pulling the sleighs or wagons to gather the sap
and bring it to the boiling shed. There, 2
large wood-fired
evaporators boil the sap into syrup that is packaged fresh.
Maple cream, sugarcakes, and granulated sugar are also
available. Visitors are welcome throughout the spring maple
season.

From St Rt 812 just north

families have been lifelong neighbors. We continue traditions
started in earlier generations - including making maple syrup.
This year we have converted our 100 year old dairy barn to a
modern sugarhouse to house our new energy-
efficient evaporator. You
can see the old beams that are 12 inches thick above the reverse
osmosis and high tech evaporator. Weather permitting, we will
give woods walk tours (dress for cold weather and mud!) Samples
of maple products. Products from both
families will be
available for purchase - Valley Maple (the
Burnison family) and Maxon Estate Farms (the Maxon
sisters and their families).
Driving:
Maxon Road is accessible
from either Rt20A or Rt 354. We are on the west side about 1 .7
miles south of Rt 354 or 3.5 miles north of US Rt 20A.
You can't miss the 100 year old barn with easy parking
right in front.
